Frequently Asked Questions
How do heavy backpacks affect children’s spines?
Backpacks over 10-15% body weight cause forward lean, stressing the spine. Uneven weight distribution creates scoliosis risk. Heavy loads compress spinal discs and strain developing muscles in growing children.
Regular pediatric chiropractic care at HealthWorks helps prevent and correct backpack-related spinal problems in students.
What makes a backpack ergonomic for kids?
Wide, padded shoulder straps distribute weight evenly. Padded back panel protects spine. Waist belt transfers weight to hips. Multiple compartments prevent shifting. Proper fit keeps pack close to body.
Even with perfect backpacks, children benefit from chiropractic check-ups to address school-related postural stress.
When should kids get spinal check-ups?
Children should be checked at major milestones: starting to walk, beginning school, after falls or sports injuries, and during growth spurts. Annual back-to-school exams prevent problems from developing.
Our gentle pediatric adjustments help Plano children maintain healthy spines throughout their crucial growing years.
